§ 2.54. Approval or Disapproval by Mayor.

  • Immediately after the passage of an ordinance by the City Council, such ordinance shall be submitted to the Mayor for his approval or disapproval and this shall be done within twenty-four (24) hours after passage of the ordinance. If the Mayor disapproves the ordinance, he shall return the ordinance, with the reasons for his disapproval stated in writing, at the next regular meeting of the City Council, whereupon the City Council, by a five-sevenths ( 5/7 ) vote of the entire membership thereof, may pass the ordinance, the Mayor's disapproval to the contrary notwithstanding. If the Mayor fails to disapprove the ordinance within twenty-four (24) hours after its passage by the City Council, the ordinance shall be considered as having been approved by the Mayor.
