§ 65.538. Street Name Change Procedures.

  • This section provides uniform procedures for changes to street names for both public and private rights-of-way.

    (a)

    Initiation. The following may initiate a street name change procedure:

    1.

    The Mayor may direct the Planning Official to prepare an application for a street name change in accordance with the procedures of this Part.

    2.

    A property owner along a particular street may submit an application to the Planning Official to request a street name change by a petition signed by fifty-one percent (51%) of the linear frontage of property owners abutting the street in question.

    The Planning Official may promulgate additional reasonable rules and regulations regarding the application procedure for a street name change.

    (b)

    Analysis. The Planning Official shall prepare a report to the Municipal Planning Board analyzing the street name change request in accordance with this Part. The Planning Official may include other pertinent information in his or her analysis, including, but not limited to; fiscal impacts to the City, cost to private businesses or residents, and safety.

    (c)

    Notice. The Planning Official shall notify by mail all property owners and tenants abutting the street of the proposed street name change, including the date and time of the schedule Municipal Planning Board hearing, at least one (1) week prior to the hearing date.

    (d)

    Municipal Planning Board Review . The Municipal Planning Board shall hold a public hearing to consider the street name change. Based on the requirements of this Part, the recommendation of the Planning Official, and in consideration of public input, the Municipal Planning Board shall prepare a recommendation for consideration by the City Council.

    (e)

    City Council Action . Following review by the Municipal Planning Board, the City Council shall consider the recommendation of the Municipal Planning Board and the requirements of this Part.
