§ 50. Head of Division of Communications.

  • The head of the division of communications of the City of Orlando, Florida, authorized by Laws of Fla. ch. 24757(1947)*(1), shall be a member of the classified service with the rank of specialist of the police department and subject to all of the benefits, privileges and obligations of a civil service employee of said department, under Laws of Fla. ch. 17166(1935)*(2), as amended, save and except that any candidate for head of the communications division shall be placed on the eligible list only by written examination which shall be open to all persons regardless of whether they are in the qualified service of the police or fire departments, and the City Council by majority vote may select the head of this division from the three candidates receiving the highest grade on this examination.

    As a civil service employee and as a member of the classified service in the police department of the City of Orlando, Florida, the head of the division of communications shall be entitled to all of the obligations and responsibilities of the pension fund of the police department of the City of Orlando, Florida, as provided by Laws of Fla. ch. 22414(1943)*(3), as amended.

    It is intended by this Act to grant to the present head of the division of communications and his successors the benefits of a civil service status with the privilege of participating in the pension fund of the police department but in the execution of his duties, as well as in the operation of the division of communications, he shall be subject to regulation and control by the City Council, as provided by said Laws of Fla. ch. 24757(1947)*(4).
