§ 61.223. Requirements for Intersections and Curves.

Latest version.
  • All intersections and curves shall be designed in accordance with the following:

Right Angle Intersections Preferred. Streets shall be designed so as to intersect as nearly as possible at right angles. The approach to an intersection should be approximately at right angles for a minimum of 150 feet on thoroughfares and 100 feet on local streets.

Relationship to Existing Intersections. New intersections to an existing street shall wherever practical be located directly across from any existing intersection on the opposite side of the street, so as to form a single four-way intersection.

Increased Thoroughfare Right-of-Way at Intersections. The minimum right-of-way width for thoroughfares shall be increased by 10 feet on each side within 150 feet of every intersection, to permit proper intersection design.

Reduction in Intersection Spacing. The minimum spacing requirements of this Section may be reduced upon finding by the City Transportation Engineer that, given the particular conditions of the proposed development, the minimums cannot be met and such reduction will not compromise operational and safety standards.
